How does backup work?
After installation Digital Lifeboat backs up the most important content on your computer – photos, music, videos and documents. Our service automatically scans your Users Folder for those files. You do not need to identify files nor configure the backup process.
If you wish to backup files that are located elsewhere or exclude files from backup Click here
How long will it take to back up my computer?
The time it takes to back up primarily depends on three things:
- 1) How much stuff is on your computer
- 2) How fast your connection to the internet is
- 3) How many hours per day your computer is powered on (most important)
If you have a lot of data on your computer, have a typical connection and use your computer throughout the day (but remember to keep it on and available at night) your initial backup could take a few days to a week or more.
After your initial backup, Digital Lifeboat only backs up the files that have changed so backups are much quicker. These “update” backups generally happen within hours of new files being added or changed. But don't forget, your PC must be powered on for us to protect new or changed files.
What if I don't want some files or folders backed up?
That's ok, simply right click on the files or folders you do not want backed up and select the Digital Lifeboat menu. We will then exclude these files and folders from your back up.
If I delete a file, can I restore it?
Yes. If you begin a restore from the PC that you have backed up, you will recover any file deleted within the last 7 days that are not currently on your PC. Once the restore is complete, you will see the Digital Lifeboat Life Ring icon on your desktop. Click the life ring and follow the instructions to complete the restore.
*Please note that for this to happen your PC has to have been online consistantly in order to maintain an up to date backup.
Will Internet or computer speed suffer with Digital Lifeboat?
Digital Lifeboat runs as a low priority service and attempts to minimize the impact on your computer and internet connection while still backing up your files as quickly as possible. If you think we're impacting your performance you can pause our service in Control Center or tray app.

What if I lose my connection to the Internet during a backup?
No problem. The next time you get online, the Digital Lifeboat service picks up where it left off when you lost your connection.
I want to install Digital Lifeboat on multiple computers. Can I do that?
Yes, and you will be able to manage them all from a single account. You can also choose to set up a unique account for each computer. The choice is yours; however, you will need to install Digital Lifeboat on each computer. Every computer you add will get 10 GB of free storage.
What kind of files can I backup with Digital Lifeboat?
Digital Lifeboat does not backup Windows System files or Software Applications. We will not backup files larger than 5 GB. Other than that we have no restrictions.
For the folders we automatically backup Click here
Does Digital Lifeboat offer automatic backup?
Yes. Our service continuously backups your computer and protects your most critical information whenever your computer is turned on and connected to the internet. This is often called CDP or continuous data protection. Digital Lifeboat provides CDP for your personal computer.

How does restore work?
You begin a restore from our Control Center or the tray application. The time it takes to restore all of your files depends upon how many files, how large they are, and the capacity of your internet connection. We highly recommend that you remain online from the beginning to the end of the restore process. Once the restore is complete, you will see the Digital Lifeboat Life Ring icon on your desktop. Click the life ring and follow the instructions to complete the restore.

THE LIMITATIONS IN THIS SECTION WILL APPLY EVEN IF ANY LIMITED REMEDY FAILS OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE.
